Town of Guilderland

Senior Services

The Town of Guilderland's Senior Citizens Services is a department of the Town responsible to the Town Supervisor and Town Board to plan, coordinate, research, and monitor services and programs that benefit Town residents 60 years of age and older.

Senior Services provides a broad range of community services, volunteer opportunities and organized activities for the Town of Guilderland's older residents.

Transportation

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm, bus transportation is available for medical, dental, therapy, and social services appointments. Grocery shopping, library, mall walking transportation is also available.

Crossgates shopping is available on the second Thursday of each month.

The bus service is from home and return. Transportation requests must be made Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am and 12 noon.

No fee is charged for transportation. Donations are accepted.

FOOD PROGRAMS

Luncheon at Town Hall

Hot meal provided by Meals on Wheels. Suggested donation helps support the Meals on Wheels program. Group gathers for lunch at 11:30 am each Tuesday.

NO MEMBERSHIP required.

Reservations necessary by 10:30 am Mondays. Programs, entertainment, games, crafts or trips follow lunch.

Home Delivered Meals

Meals on Wheels are delivered in all areas of Guilderland Monday through Friday. Call 465-6465 for more information.

Food Pantry

Guilderland Interfaith Council emergency food pantry is available to residents in need. Call 456-5410 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

Volunteers are needed for the above programs.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

Senior Service Staff assists income eligible persons to access benefits in the following areas:

  • HEAP (fuel assistance)
  • WRAP (weatherization)
  • Telephone discounts
  • Cable discount
  • Food Stamps

Legal Assistance is available with a lawyer from the Albany County Office of the Aging. (This does not include wills.) Call the Senior Service Office 356-1980 to arrange appointment.

Volunteers assist persons with medical insurance forms.

Blood Pressure screening: third Thursday of each month 9-11 am at Town Hall.

Flu Clinic is held each fall.

Wheelchairs are available for loan to all residents of Guilderland. Call the Senior Office for availability.

NEWSLETTER

Monthly newsletter with the schedule of above activities and other special activities is published monthly and is available at Town Hall, Guilderland Library, Price Chopper's, and Apartment Rental Offices.

Activities are also posted on the Town Crier, Channel 17.
